A solar power system that is connected to the grid will export any excess solar energy to the grid if it is not used directly at home. Using as much solar energy generated as possible in a grid-connected system maximises return on investment.

Commercial PV Installation

Prices for off-grid setups begin about $14,500. (Which could power a small summertime batch or bus). For the average New Zealand home, the initial investment for getting off the grid is around $34,500. An off-grid solar power system would benefit those who are not currently linked to the energy grid because joining to the grid would cost more than $17,000 while not paying any electricity bills.
